Turning words into action: A 2030 plan for Women in Fire

Over the last few years, FPA Australia has been looking at strategies to encourage more women into the fire protection sector.

These discussions have focused on changing attitudes, breaking down existing barriers, and providing appropriate support to female fire practitioners.

We are now developing a plan for the future, and collating ideas on how to improve the participation of young women seeking a career in fire protection.

But we need your help.  How can we melt the glass ceiling?

Yvonne holds a Bachelor of Technology (Engineering), and has worked within the construction industry for the past 35+ years, including as a government executive, board member, managing director, regional manager, and project superintendent in trade contracting, contract administration, project management, design management, and development management.

Anita Kingdom

General Manager, Total Concept Industries

A curious mind and a drive to continually question process and authority has lead Anita and the Total Concept Industries team to raise the installation and asset management bar.

Since accepting the challenge of becoming General Manager of a start-up 10 years ago, Anita, who knew nothing about the fire industry, has worked tirelessly with her team and other small fire safety businesses to raise the challenges and concerns experienced by small niche companies in an industry which is deemed essential but is not valued aesthetically, practically or systemically by consumers.

Having undertaken studies across a wide variety of industries, including outdoor education, alternative health sciences, marketing and preliminary studies in architecture to currently studying adaptive leadership, her unique ability to challenge any problem from all angles and identify potential solutions has enabled the team to grow and take on projects of all sizes.

Elissa Fazio

National Operations Risk & Compliance Manager, NewsCorp

Elissa has a long history in the industry, predominantly in the fire engineering sector. She has significant experience in risk management, property operations and legislative compliance. She is a representative for Engineers Australia on the ABCC and is an invited member of the CESARE Industry Board at VUT.
