Women in Fire
A feature of Conference program will be a dedicated stream featuring the contribution that women provide to the fire industry and emergency services. Opening with a keynote address from Kristy Walters, a senior executive in the NSW Police Force, on the pathways carved by others and how women following will stand on those shoulders. There will be presentations on women in firefighting, FPAS accreditation scheme, risk management of building stock and advice on assisting practitioners in understanding fire safety engineering reports and performance solutions and an expert panel session discussing the role of women in the industry. The stream will finish with an international expert panel on the implications on the industry of the tragic Grenfell fire. This panel will include Dame Judith Hackitt, appointed by the UK Government to lead the inquiry into the Grenfell Tower disaster, Stephanie Barwise QC representing the larger of the two groups of victims in The Grenfell Tower Public Inquiry. Nages Karuppiah, SAMFS Vice President of the Australian Chapter of the Institution of Fire Engineers and moderated by Bronwyn Weir co-author of the Shergold Weir Report.
