The use of structural steel as a construction material for commercial projects is rapidly growing each year in Australia. With that comes the search for new global alternative solutions to protect these structures, to reduce application costs and find sustainable certified solutions.
Alternative new innovative vermiculite solutions are now becoming available overseas using innovative technology which comes with a range of unique sustainability certification, significantly lower thickness and a wider range of steel sections being able to be covered at higher FRL’S. These lower thicknesses assist in significant productivity gains and reduced costs.
The presentation will also discuss the requirements for structural engineers to calculate limiting steel temperatures to give a safe and more cost-effective solution. Along with how different solutions should be applied on connection details so they can function together and when fire engineering removes partial requirements for protection to prevent heat transfer into these areas.
