Next edition of the NCC

The National Construction Code is revised on a three year cycle. In this session, Gary will share information about proposals included in the NCC 2025 Public Comment Draft – with a particular focus on those on interest to the fire safety industry. Public comment on these proposals will be accept from 1 May to 1 July 2024 – so Gary’s session is an ideal place to get a summary of proposed changes.

Gary Rake

Chief Executive Officer, Australian Building Codes Board

Gary Rake comes to the ABCB with more than 25 years’ experience in senior positions across the public and private sectors. An economist and accountant by profession, his range of experience covers urban planning and development, asset management, financial management, human resources, consumer protection regulation, criminal and civil investigations, marketing and internal audit.

He has previously held Commonwealth roles as Chief Executive of the National Capital Authority and Chief Operating Officer of the Therapeutic Goods Administration, in the NSW Government Office of Sport and the ACT Government Chief Minister’s, Environment & Planning, Justice & Community Safety and Community Services Directorates. He has also worked in the banking industry and been a Partner in a Big 4 consulting firm.

Gary says he “enjoys grabbing the prickly problem that nobody else wants to touch” and is looking forward to close, collaborative, discussions with all stakeholders interested in the work of the ABCB.

Outside of work, he volunteers in sport as a surf life saver and kayak coach and is also Chair of the Board at the Canberra Glassworks.
