SESSIONS

A compound event – fires and a tropical cyclone – Tropical Cyclone Alby, April 1978

Tropical Cyclone Alby passed close to the southwest of WA and caused damage from wind and fire. It had very little rain and meant that unusually for a cyclone bushfire was a major problem.

This session will provide:

  • Learning about compound natural disasters
  • Understanding of tropical cyclones
  • Risk to communities
  • Potential impacts with climate change
