Impacts of smoke on the eye surface and what it means for firefighter

Eye problems are one of the most common symptoms reported following exposure to bushfire smoke and research to date has shown that goggles are challenging to use on the fireground to protect the eye surface from smoke exposure. As a result, eyes of firefighters are exposed to smoke resulting in operational challenges on the fireground and eye problems that continue for days after a shift. This talk will be presented by an optometrist with research experience on the impact of smoke on the eye surface. They will highlight the damage that smoke can cause to the eye surface, the symptoms that can occur following exposure and provide consensus based clinical advice on how to manage your eye symptoms.
