Fire spread modelling is now a critical component of bushfire management, informing everything from response strategies and evacuation plans to the likelihood of critical infrastructure being impacted. Until recently, similar innovations with suppression modeling had remained out of reach, or in the realm of highly specialised fire behavior analysts. In this presentation, we will discuss how at Firestory, we’ve built the ability to run automated scenarios to design and compare containment strategies, and visualise their potential impact on the spread of the fire. This feature enables strategy design, decision support for strategy selection, workflow tools for approval, and unified guidelines for appropriate equipment selection. We’ll discuss the development of this feature in close consultation with firefighters and foresters, as well as the long product roadmap to develop more complex suppression modelling, including aerial firefighting.
