Dr. Maria Kornakova

Manager Bushfire Services, FPA Australia

Dr Maria Kornakova is Manager Bushfire Services at FPA Australia. Architect by training, Maria completed Masters degree in Urban and Regional planning as Fulbright Scholar. She successfully completed PhD at the University of Melbourne and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Melbourne and Massey University, NZ. The key focus of her research and professional interest is bushfire risk reduction practices through building, planning and architecture. Maria transferred to the industry to practically apply skills and knowledge gained over the years of her academic career and joined FPA Australia in December 2018 as Bushfire Services Coordinator and was promoted as Manager two years later.

Tracy Gurnett

Director, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water

Tracy Gurnett is the Director of the Air Quality Emissions Standards Section within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. Tracy has responsibility for program policy administering the permit schemes for the refrigeration and fire protection industry under the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989. Tracy has significant experience spanning over more than two decades working within the Australian Public Sector and has led teams as a Director since 2007 on a range of program and policy work including development of the 2020 Mental Health Bushfire Recovery Package to support front line workers, as a member of the National COVID-19 Taskforce working to support people with disabilities and leading a range of teams reforming Aged Care. Tracy has a double degree in Arts (political science) and Laws, and holds a Graduate Certificate in Management.

Christina Knorr

Founding Director, CJK Fire & Safety

Christina Knorr is the founding director of CJK Fire & Safety and CJK Fire & Safety Education, which is a boutique fire engineering consultancy in Queensland. Christina is an accredited fire engineer, she is also a special expert witness, accredited meditator, entrepreneur, mother and generally a superstar!

Christina is well known in the fire protection and fire safety industry and is a member of various committees, such as Engineers Australia, External Advisory Committee on two courses at the Western Australia University and the IBQC. In addition to being a special expert and fire engineer, she is an interviewer for chartered fire safety engineers, a guest lecturer at universities and the preferred fire engineering consultant at QBCC.

She believes in raising awareness of fire safety and offers her time to speak at conferences and seminars around the country and overseas.
