PV/ESS fire safety
Captain Birt will educate on the direct connection between PV/ESS and civilian life safety, firefighter safety, property conservation and incident stabilisation, sharing 20 years of research the US fire service has done on PV connectors, Arc-Fault Protection, Rapid Shutdown and Inverter Failure.
He will discuss the fire risks and response strategies for:
- DC-DC Converters Module Level Power Electronics (MLPE) with string voltages of up to 1,500 volts.
- Microinverter architecture that includes:
- One micro per solar module, MLPE
- Module voltage typically 45 to 65 Vdc
- AC voltage disconnected by opening a breaker.
- The UL 9540A test method for evaluating thermal runaway fire propagation in battery energy storage systems. We will discuss the four levels of testing:
- Cell level test
- Module level test
- Unit level test
- Installation level test.
